According to Wendy McElroy, it turns out that people actually fall for the Nigerian e-mail scam: http://www.wendymcelroy.com/news.php?extend.217
I wonder how I get targeted for my spam. I get the Nigerian scam e-mail about once a week. Lately, every day I get one of more offers to become the American rep for some company in the third world. Local women want to meet me, and I can get Viagra at a discount. Lots of people want to enlarge my penis, and they are pretty persistent about this. Others want to help me lose weight with hoodia. If I need a home equity loan, a whole crowd of spammers is eager to give me one. Does everybody get this same spam, or are they targeted somehow?

dont forget the discount software and meeting people of the opposite sex. and if somebody has ever logged into a porn site using your computer - all sorts of kink.
i have been tracking spam on three e-mail accounts for almost a year. Fortunately i have filters that count without me looking - i average 250 per day on my yahoo account. part of life - bartlebey?
I get all of these and more. They've got links to have affairs with h*rny h*usewives who live in my own neighborhood, they want to increase the volume of my s*men, tips on the hottest stocks. I think these are universal. Door to door salesmen, telemarketers, now spammers. Wait till next decade.
All those, plus the ones listed previously in the comments, and I win an international lottery or two a week.
I get about 1 spam message every two months.
Try mailinator.com for your spam bucket. You'll never have to see 'em.
Of course, you'll probably have to change your current email addy too and keep it among friends.
You may feel lonely all of a sudden and want it all back.
