New Justice

Aside from the cronyism thing, I do not regard the fact that the new nominee for the Supreme Court has never been a judge as a strike against her. It is probably high time that the Court got a little more diverse in terms of life experience. Having the Court packed with law professors and appellate judges makes it too far removed from human experience and too apt to think in ideological terms rather than in terms of deciding individual cases.

In fact, I would go so far as to suggest that a non-lawyer might be an interesting and appropriate choice. I'm not endorsing the current nominee by any means as I am sure she is a statist through and through, but I think the hue and cry over her lack of judicial experience is unwarranted.
